     Our "lapping plate" is a coarse metal unit used to flatten the sharpening stone used for prepping your mating surfaces. In order to achieve flat surfaces, whether on an engine block, exhaust manifold, knife or cutting tool, it's critical to have a flat stone to sharpen on. The lapping plate is used to ensure the sharpening stone surface is flat and true and keep it that way.
